Tips For A Better Resume

 

The looks

  • Keep it to one page
  • Use quality paper, 8.5 x 11
  • Use your computer
  • Use a simple serif font like Times Roman
  • Type should be 10 or 12 point
  • Margins between .75 and 1.5 inches
  • Use bold face words to indicate a new section

The content

  • Clearly state name & contact info at top of page
  • Summarize your two or three best skills
  • List degree(s)and college(s)attended
    • Include GPA if 3.0 or better
    • Include major and minors
  • List job experience
    • Use descriptive titles
    • Include start date and end date
    • Include notable personal accomplishments
  • List business-related activities
  • List personal activities

P.S.

  • Never use the pronoun “I”
  • The more creative you get, the better
  • Spell check, proof read and then proof read again
  • Read it out loud
  • Ask someone else to read it
  • Use colored paper (nothing dark or flashy)
